Accept Trainees at Kampo Medicine Class

Kampo medicine is a medical system that was introduced to Japan from mainland China about 1,500 years ago.

During the Heian period, the Imperial Court’s medical officials taught the theories and techniques of medicine (kusuri), acupuncture (hari), moxibustion (kyu), massage (anma), and incantation (jugon, jujutsu).
Since then, it has evolved with the times and is still widely practiced today in the forms of Kampo medicine and Shinkyu (acupuncture and moxibustion).

Kampo and Chinese medicine (TCM) developed from the understanding of “Qi” (vital energy) and its philosophy.
It is believed that the world exists because of Qi, and everything that happens in the universe arises from its movement and function.
In modern medical terms, it can be described as a system of thought with a quantum physics perspective.
The understanding of Qi has been used to predict weather and climate, determine directions, create calendars, and develop agriculture, ultimately contributing to nation-building.
When this concept was applied to the human body, it led to the development of medicine.

Kampo and Chinese medicine are not only for curing diseases but also for preventive medicine, contributing to human health, longevity, and well-being.

At Kakikoufu, we offer lectures on ancient philosophical thought, methods to apply it to various diseases, and Qi Gong and Zen practice.
We aim to share ancient wisdom that can be immediately incorporated into daily life rather than simply being studied as theory.

At Kakikoufu,
Kaori teaches the theories and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Kampo medicine, and Medicinal Cooking (Yakuzen).
Hiroshi is responsible for the theories and practices of Japanese acupuncture and moxibustion (Shinkyu), Meridian and Acupoint (Keiraku and Keiketsu) theory, Eastern philosophy, martial arts, and Qi Gong (Qigong).

Experience Traditional Japanese Moxibustion

Experience Traditional Japanese Moxibustion Moxibustion is a traditional healing method that was introduced to Japan from mainland China over 1,200 years ago. From the Sengoku (Warring States) period through the Edo period, many samurai practiced moxibustion regularly to maintain their health. It is recorded that Tokugawa Iemitsu, the third shogun of the Tokugawa dynasty, performed moxibustion on himself almost daily and encouraged the general public to do the same for their well-being. Ninja, famous worldwide for their stealth and skill, were also highly knowledgeable in medicine and pharmacology. They used this expertise to aid their missions, often disguising themselves as medicine or moxa merchants while traveling across the country for intelligence gathering. Moxibustion uses moxa, which is made from dried yomogi (Japanese mugwort). Even today, the traditional methods of making moxa and performing moxibustion remain largely unchanged from the age of the samurai. In this workshop, you will experience traditional moxibustion by:
  • Making moxa from dried yomogi leaves
  • Learning how to perform simple moxibustion at home
  • How to find acupuncture points (tsubo)
  • Consultation on personal health concerns and self-care advice tailored to your condition
  • Take-home moxa as a souvenir

This is a 90-minute hands-on experience.
The participation fee is ¥19,800 (tax included), covering all materials.

Please note:

Our regular Kampo consultations and acupuncture treatments take priority.
If you wish to join the workshop, please contact us at least 5 days in advance.
We appreciate your understanding that we may not be able to accommodate all requests.
Why not create a special memory of your time in Japan by trying moxibustion, a self-care practice once used by shoguns, samurai, and ninja?
